Experience
After a year as Director of Software Engineering at SAS Institute for a new initiative
in manufacturing software technologies, Aldo returned to the
ABB Corporate Research Center
to lead their software architecture research activities.
Prior to joining SAS, for over 6 years Aldo managed the Software Engineering Program and
ASPI group
at ABB
in the US Corporate Research Center (CRC) from 1999 to early 2006.
The objective of the ABB program he managed is to assist ABB development sites to improve their product development processes using the
SEISM's
CMMI®
as a framework for continuous process improvement.
Before joining ABB, Aldo developed software systems for nine years
for the manufacturing industry in Canada to support their knowledge-intensive activities.
He was the Canadian Coordinating Partner for the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Initiative, which was an international program
to promote the development of advanced software systems for the manufacturing industries in the industrialized world.
Aldo also managed the Integrated Manufacturing group at the Alberta Research Council:
the mission of the group is to improve the global competitive position of
Western Canadian manufacturing companies by promoting the growth and re-engineering
of their manufacturing related activities using advanced information technologies.
Research
In 2000, Aldo received the "Inventor of the Year" award in the laboratory at ABB for his many publications and invention disclosures.
While at ABB US CRC, he has researched agile lifecycle models in collaboration with
Karen Smiley,
and worked in the areas of software architecture and knowledge management.
Aldo regularly publishes many technical papers on his research and experiences - see
Conferences and Publications
for details.
Aldo's interests include
agile methodologies;
knowledge-intensive engineering applied to manufacturing;
object-oriented manufacturing systems;
process re-engineering;
and in general, the implementation of advanced information technologies
in manufacturing environments.
Teaching (at ABB and at local universities)
Education
Aldo earned his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering,
with a concentration in Operations Research, from the
Universidad Iberoamericana
in Mexico.
Aldo earned his Master's degree and Ph.D. in Systems Design Engineering
(Computer Science, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence) from the
University of Waterloo
in Ontario, Canada.
He is licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Canada,
and is a
Certified ScrumMasterTM.
Affiliations
Aldo is a long-time member of the
IEEE Computer Society,
